Portable MP3 Players - iPod, Sony, Samsung, Philips, Creative, Rio and iRiver
MP3 Players
Welcome to the MP3 Players page, MP3 players are the must have portable music device of the 21st century as they are very small but allow you to carry and listen to a huge amount of digital music. MP3 players are also very fashionable so come in all kinds of cool designs with black, silver and white being very popular and you can even buy pink MP3 players. MP3 players are also provided by most of the top electronics brands and they include Sony, iRiver, Philips, iPod (Apple), Creative, Samsung and Rio.
MP3 players players are like other portable music devices such as personal CD players but are much smaller, they seem to continue getting smaller too with the latest portable MP3 players being tiny. They come with a pair of earphones so that you can listen to the music and have controls for skipping tracks and fast forwarding or rewinding, some also have a screen that details what is playing and also offers a menu so that you can easily choose music.
There are two main ways of copying music onto an MP3 player, you can copy music from your current CD collection onto the MP3 player or you can download MP3 tracks from web sites such as iTunes and then transfer them onto your MP3 player. To do either of these you will need a computer though so you should not buy an MP3 player if you do not have a computer, you will also need an Internet connection if you wish to download MP3 music with a broadband connection recommended as it is much faster.
The main feature to look for when you are buying an MP3 player is it's capacity, this is the size of the hard drive and dictates how many songs the MP3 player can hold. The capacity of the MP3 player is measured in the same way as computer hard drives so use Megabytes (MB) and Gigabytes (GB) to measure the capacity, there are around one thousand Megabytes in a Gigabyte (1GB =1000MB). When you are looking at an MP3 player it will state it's capacity like 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB or 4GB so you can see that the size usually doubles, you should always buy the MP3 player with the largest capacity that you can afford as it means that you will be able to store more songs and it's surprising how quickly an MP3 player can fill up when you are copying whole albums onto the MP3 player. 512MB would be the smallest that we would recommend buying but you would be far better off with one of the larger MP3 players like the 1GB, 2GB, 4GB or 8GB MP3 players, there are some that have huge capacities such as 30GB but these are very expensive and are only needed if you are going to be storing literally thousands of songs on the MP3 player.
There are lots of brands that offer MP3 players with the iPod being the undisputed king of MP3 players, the iPod is extremely popular and comes in lots of different models. Firstly there is the standard iPod that has the largest storage capacity and the most features, it is the most expensive but if you want the best iPod then the standard iPod is the one to buy. The standard iPod has a colour screen and can play videos as well as MP3's and also comes in black or white. There are then other iPod MP3 players such as the Nano and Shuffle, the Nano is very small and has lots of advanced features although it does not have the capacity or functionality of the standard iPod. The iPod Shuffle is the cheapest iPod that you can buy an is very limited when it comes to capacity and functionality, it has no screen at all but is cheap so is a good choice if you wish to buy a cheap iPod.
There are also lots of other portable MP3 players available that you can buy online from brands such as Sony, Philips, Samsung, iRiver, Creative and Rio. Brands such as Sony, Samsung, Creative and Philips offer more high end MP3 players that have large storage capacities and cool features, they are often as expensive as the iPods and have similar levels of functionality. There are also lots of cheap MP3 players that you can buy online that have small capacities which are great if you only want a few songs and are not bothered about advanced features, eBay is very popular for cheap Mp3 players and lots of shops also sell cheap MP3 players online.
