Cordless hedge trimmers generally cost more so they are better if you have lots of hedges to trim or if you really cannot have a cable (for example if the hedges are a long way from your power source), if you can put up with the cable then the corded options are better as they are cheaper.
The blades are also important as they will dictate how well the hedge trimmer performs, some have laser cut or diamond ground blades that offer much better performance. Some hedge trimmers also have dual action blades which reduce the vibration and also allow you to cut thicker branches.
Safety is very important with hedge trimmers as they can obviously be very dangerous, they have two handled operation so should one hand come free the hedge trimmer will stop imidieatly and prevent any accidents. They usually also have a gaurd that protects against any flying debris as branches can be flung very fast through the air, you should also wear good eye protection, gloves and sensible clothing when using a hedge trimmer.
