Digital Cameras

Welcome to the Digital Cameras page, digital cameras have just about replaced the old film cameras in UK homes and there is very good reason for that, with a digital camera you can take, edit and print your own photos very easily. Digital cameras store the photos on memory which can be internal or on a separate memory card, the amount of memory that a digital photo takes up depends on the quality of the photo s the more detail that they have the larger they are. Digital cameras are also very cheap these days as there are so many available, you can get good quality digital cameras for cheap prices if you shop around and we also feature lots of cheap digital cameras on this page. There are lots of brands that offer cheap digital cameras including Sony, Olympus, Fugi, Panasonic, Nikon, Samsung, Kodak, Canon, Pentax and others.

The main feature to look out for with a digital camera is it's mega pixel rating. The mega pixel rating states how many pixels the digital camera uses when taking a digital photo and the more it has the better, this is because a camera with more mega pixels will take the digital photo in more detail and therefore in a better quality. This is especially true if you plan to enlarge your digital photos as the detail is much more apparent when a photo is enlarged, a low mega pixel and high mega pixel photo may look the same on a small screen but when you enlarge them they will look very different. So when you buy a digital camera it is always best to get the highest mega pixel rating that you can afford as it will offer the best detail and quality, the cheaper digital cameras usually have lower mega pixel ratings but the quality is not as good (especially if you plan to enlarge the photos).

Most digital cameras offer many pre-set shooting modes that offer optimum settings for the digital camera for the conditions you are currently in, these include night, outdoor, close-up, portrait and many other shooting modes. These shooting modes are very useful as they allow you to easily take the best photo possible without having to worry about complex settings. Many digital cameras can also record video and have a microphone built in so that your video can contain sound, brands that offer digital cameras with video recording include Kodak, Sony, Fugi, Olympus, Panasonic, Nikon, Canon, Samsung, Pentax and others.

The photos and videos that you take using a digital camera are stored on the camera's memory, this can be internal or on a memory card. Most cheap digital cameras do not have internal memory and come with a small memory card so you will not be able to store many photos, this is not such a problem though as you can easily buy a cheap memory card that has lots of storage. Even some of the more expensive digital cameras only have memory cards that are quite small so buying a memory card is still often necessary and it is also useful to have a spare memory card just in case your current memory card becomes full. The memory is measured in megabytes (MB) and gigabytes (GB) with 1GB being 1024MB, a 512MB memory card offers lots of storage space but you should always buy the largest memory card that you can afford as they fill up quickly (especially if you have the camera set to take the highest quality photos or if you shoot allot of video).

When you have your digital photos you then have several options, you can easily transfer the photos to your computer using the provided USB cable and you can then edit or print them out as you like. When printing digital photos it is important that you have a good quality printer and they are usually called photo quality printers, you can also get printers with Pictbridge technology that allows you to print the digital photos directly from the camera and thus removing the need for a computer. There are also printers that have a dock on them in which the digital camera can sit and transfer photos to the printer, this is easier than using a cable as the camera is simply placed in the dock of the printer. It is important to note though that many of these dock printers will only work with a digital camera from the same brand so Pictbridge is a better choice if you do not wish to buy the same brand, brands available include Kodak, Nikon, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Fugi, Canon, Olympus and Pentax.

So there is lots of choice when buying a digital camera online, there are lots of cheap digital cameras and some of these are great but you have to look out for the mega pixel rating which will dictate the quality of the photos that the digital camera produces. We have listed lots of digital cameras on this page including cheap digital cameras, they are from top shops such as Amazon, Argos, Comet, Currys, Dixons, eBay, LX Direct and Tesco and include brands such as Kodak, Samsung, Panasonic, Nikon, Canon, Sony, Olympus, Fugi and Pentax.
